The 2023 National HBPA Annual Conference was held in New Orleans on March 6-10. The conference was held in conjunction with the Association of Racing Commissioners International (ARCI) Annual Meeting, allowing both organizations the opportunity to discuss the industry and where we are headed in 2023. The conference took place at the Hotel Monteleone located in the historic French Quarter. The conference was hosted by the Louisiana HBPA and included an afternoon of racing at Fair Grounds. Attorney Peter Sacopulos participated in the 2023 National HBPA Conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana, March 6-March 10, 2023. This annual conference was held in conjunction with the Association of Racing Commissioners International.
Mr. Sacopulos participated as a panelist, presenting to representatives of state chapters of the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association and state regulators. Specifically, Mr. Sacopulos participated in a panel discussion regarding the status of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act. Mr. Sacopulos was joined by panelist John Duvieilh of the law firm of Jones Walker LLP, Daniel Suhr, lead counsel for the National HBPA in its constitutional challenge to HISA that is pending before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Peter Ecabert, national counsel for the HBPA.
